Before Breast Augmentation Surgery
The patient will have already been evaluated and examined
prior to the actual surgical procedure, as well as to review
your medical history in order to avoid any possible complications.
The desired result of your breast augmentation surgery is
discussed during your consultation so that the surgeon and
the patient has understood what type of expectations they
should have about the outcome of their procedure. Our breast
augmentation surgeons are experienced in helping the patient
understand what will work and better enhance their body type.
Some women may undergo a few different surgical procedures
to optimize the results of the breast augmentation. For instance,
a woman who has sagging breasts prior to the breast augmentation
may want a breast lift so that the implant will be in a more
desirable position.
When an implant has been surgically put into a breast it
can hinder the result of a mammogram. High-risk patients may
have their breast augmentation implant put in based on the
ability to better detect breast cancer since the breast implant
can be put in front of the muscle or behind. It is advised
that patients undergo a mammogram prior to their surgery regardless
of their risk.
The surgeon will instruct the patient on any lifestyle adjustments,
mainly to their diet and exercise that will improve the outcome
of the breast augmentation. For instance, certain vitamins
and supplements can interfere with surgical procedures, so
it is important for the patient to disclose any information
that can affect your surgery. Anti-inflammatory drugs and
smoking should be avoided well before the breast augmentation
takes place. The surgeon will outline what should be avoided
with each individual patient depending on her particular conditions
and risk factors.
The anesthesia that is administered is dependent on the patient
and the preferences of that particular surgeon. The patient
will not be conscious during the breast augmentation procedure.
It is important that the patient have a ride to and from the
surgery.
