After Breast Augmentation Surgery
Most women will have their breast augmentation surgery on
an outpatient basis, but women with higher risk or unforeseen
complications may stay in the facility. The long-term results
of the breast augmentation should not be expected directly
following the procedure because swelling and discoloration
is normal at first. Patients should expect to experience discomfort
and to feel tired. Within a few days of the surgery the swelling,
soreness, and discoloration should begin to fade and the results
of the breast augmentation become more visible.
Normal activities cannot be performed for a short period
after surgery and you may find yourself needing assistance
with simple tasks. Physical contact should be avoided at first,
and direct and forceful contact with your chest area should
be avoided for a while. Tasks like showering is not allowed
for the first few days, but within a week the feeling of sensitivity
and fatigue will begin to lessen.
Scarring should be expected after a breast augmentation due
to the incisions made during surgery. The scars will appear
pinkish on the breasts for a few months until they fade over
time and become barely visible. All the swelling and discoloration
will disappear with time as well, and the result of the breast
augmentation will become apparent.
